The Gallant class was a 24th century Federation starship type, a class of tier 4 tactical escorts in Starfleet service from the 2390s decade. Like the Vigilant-class, this class was an evolution of the Defiant-class warship. (STO website: Ships of the Line)

History and specifics[]

In the year 2394, Starfleet refocused on more combat-oriented starships like the 2370s-era Defiant-class destroyer. The prototype USS Gallant (NX-93881) entered service in the year 2394, alongside the Vigilant-class starships USS Vigilant and USS Defiant. Both types of tactical escort classes were an evolution of the original Defiant. (STO website: Ships of the Line)

The Gallant remained in service into the 25th century. In the 2400s decade, Starfleet was involved in the Federation-Klingon War of 2405-2410. Thanks to the Fleet Modernization Program underway at the Utopia Planitia Fleet Yards, the ship's components remained interchangeable with Defiant-class escorts, and the ship was rated as a tier 4 tactical escort. From the year 2410 onward, the Gallant represented its class in the Starfleet Shipyards Operations interface. After years of service, the Gallant had retained its "NX" registry number prefix. (STO - Klingon War mission: "Welcome to Earth Spacedock")

Following the Battle of Excalbia on stardate 84999.22^[1] in early 2411, which saw the prominent involvement of hero ships from the Federation's past and present, the Gallant was among the tactical escorts that received a refit to legendary pilot warship qualifications.
