Ganidra was a red giant star located in the Scorpius-Centaurus OB Association area of the galaxy. It was orbited by a Class M planet named Fabrina, home of the Fabrini people.

History and specifics[]

While the Fabrini people evolved, Ganidra was nearing the end of its life cycle. As the Fabrini people developed an understanding of astronomy, they realized their sun was dying. Because of this, the Fabrini launched a number of probes in the hopes that someone in the distant future would discover them and keep the legacy of the Fabrini alive. A group of Fabrini launched an ambitious project to take a segment of the Fabrini people to a habitable planet 32 light-years away which a species called the Tishiki told the Fabrini they could have.

By the time Yonada was under construction, Ganidra appeared as a large, red mass in the Fabrini sky - which people could stare at with no ill effects, unlike the star which Lorina orbited, that was so small and bright that to look directly at it for any length in time would result in damage to a person's eyes.

Sometime around 7955 BC, Ganidra had stopped burning carbon, and had begun fusing the heavier element neon. This signified that the star only had a few years of life left. Fortunately, the Fabrini were able to launch the world ship Yonada in 7954 BC, and the ship was outside the danger zone by the time the star finally exploded.

Over the next ten thousand years, Ganidra became part of Fabrini mythology when the people on Yonada enshrined her as the Creator Nidra, the creator of fire and lies. (TOS novel: Ex Machina)
