Ganthet was an Oan from an alternate reality.

Biography[]

At some point, a powerful threat pursued him to the world Mogo after the destruction of the rest of the Green Lantern Corps. There, Ganthet escaped by transporting himself to the Kelvin timeline. At some point afterward, Ganthet died but had managed to protect the energy rings in his possession.

In 2262, an USS Enterprise away team to an orphan planet led to the discovery of Ganthet's body and the rings. The body was brought aboard the vessel and analyzed by Doctor Leonard McCoy who believed the ship's exobiologists would be interested in the new alien species. (TOS - The Spectrum War comic: "Issue 1")

Roughly a year after the Enterprise's discovery, the crew discovered the corpse of a broken Manhunter, signalling that Oans had counterparts in the Kelvin timeline. Managing to reach the Oa first, discovering these Oans to be less advanced than the ones that he had left behind, Thaal Sinestro managed to access the Central Power Battery, nearly using its power to bring about an Oan extinction before the crew of the Enterprise and the Green Lantern Corps arrived. Witnessing Sinestro's power, Ganthet was inspired to unleash the Oans' prototype power ring, the ring choosing James T. Kirk as it bearer, the unexpected boost allowing the invaders to be repelled. After Sinestro fled, Ganthet spoke to the aliens on behalf of his people. Subsequently, the Oans opened diplomatic ties with the United Federation of Planets, who promised to aid the Oans in building a version of the Green Lantern Corps, while, at Hal Jordan's advice, they reprogrammed the Manhunters to ensure they would remain benevolent. (TOS - Stranger Worlds comics: "Issue 4", "Issue 5", "Issue 6")
