The Garda are a developing humanoid civilization native to the planet Bira III. They are psychokinetic and average nearly 2.5 meters in height.

History[]

Over a million years of evolution, the humanoid Garda produced stunning city architecture, including Mayan-like stepped pyramids. They formed tribes, hunted with spears and swords, lived in straw huts and wore animal skins.

In the 21st century, the humanoid Stoyak from the planet's other hemisphere invaded their territory and incited a war.

In 2270, the Garda and Stoyak jointly requested Federation aid to make peace. Garda representatives met with Spock and Montgomery Scott, who were then ambushed and captured by Stoyak forces. A brain device reduced Spock's intellect to that of a caveman, whereas Scott became a Stoyak god and general. Spock escaped to lead a tribe of Garda in battle against Scott's squadron of aircars. The conflict escalated until the Garda suggested a trial by combat between Spock and Scott. When the effects of the brain device wore off, and the two made peace, it inspired both sides to make peace. (TOS comic: "A World Against Itself")
