Garggash Dlumppheg was a Tellarite trader of the 22nd century.

Biography[]

On reference stardate 0/7907 (circa 2150s), Dlumppheg was commanding a dilapidated trading vessel when he became lost near Orion space. An Orion Colonies ship rescued Dlumppheg, but the Tellarite's stubborn refusal to even identify himself, let alone actually trade, angered the Orion commander. The Orions dragged Dlumppheg to Rigel to let the Botchok Planetary Congress (BPC) deal with him.

They did, and five months later, Dlumppheg left for Tellar with an exclusive trade agreement with the BPC. He promptly sold franchises to the biggest corporations on Tellar, Andor, Vulcan and Alpha Centauri VII. (FASA RPG module: The Orions: Book of Common Knowledge) Following the information of Dlumppheg and other Tellarite traders, independent Terran ships contacted the Orion Colonies of the Rigel system on stardate 0/7907.21, and discovered the great wealth of the Orions. (FASA RPG modules: Cadet's Orientation Sourcebook, Federation)

One such vessel was the UNSS Marco Polo, which returned from Rigel in stardate 0/8202 with news that the exclusive contracts between Dlumppheg and the BPC (whose trade was practically non-existent) didn't apply to the Orion trading families, and that a much more profitable market was to be had with them. This began a flood of free trade between independent traders and the Orion families and corporations.

Dlumppheg's contracts were rendered practically worthless, and he was sued unsuccessfully more than 750 times in Andorian, Centauran and Terran courts. (FASA RPG module: The Orions: Book of Common Knowledge)

He was found innocent in court, with the Vulcan judge stating, "One cannot imprison someone for being a fool and for being believed by other fools." He managed to retire with enough money to purchase a colony planet of his own, where he lived a long life. He died by the 2280s, survived by 14 sons and 11 daughters, with his memoirs accessible to historians. (FASA RPG module: Spacelanes: The Magazine of Interstellar Trade)
