Garrusians are a diminutive race of humanoids native to the planet Garrus.

Specifics

Garrusians had a permanent grin on their faces. They had a habit of apologizing profusely, which made others feel guilty for unintended slights. They greatly admired engineering and technology.

Garrusians worshipped their master computer center as a deity. "Sacrificing" one's soul to the master was said to bring unending happiness and was their highest honor. High priests devoted their lives to training and operating its systems. However, their religion forbade any public discussion of computer operations.

History

In the 2260s, Gorrusians became members of the Federation.

Shortly afterward, Gorrusian society faced a crisis when their last high priest died without a successor. As cultural taboos forbade them from asking for help, they felt they had no choice but to abduct a replacement computer expert from the USS Enterprise. After the circumstances became public, Gorrusians accepted aid in the form of a satellite data relay network linked to Federation computers. (TOS audiobook: The Human Factor)
