Garth was born in the city of Trelemarcas, on Izar in 2208. He entered Starfleet Academy in 2225 and graduated in 2229. During his time at the Academy he proved to be an exemplary cadet, and proved himself to be an adept tactician and military expert. (FASA RPG module: The Four Years War)
Battle of AxanarEdit
By 2253 , Garth had risen to the rank of Captain and was given the USS Heisenberg. Garth and his crew of the Heisenberg then fought three Klingon cruisers. During the battle, Garth used the Cochrane deceleration maneuver to defeat the Klingons.
Three years later , Garth gave a lecture about the war above Axanar to the cadets at Starfleet Academy and the lessons he'd learned about fighting for peace. After his speech, Garth was then introduced by Captain Christopher Pike to Cadet James T. Kirk, son of George Kirk, with Garth asking the cadet to keep him apprised of his progress.
In 2260 , Garth then decided to beam down to Antos IV alone, in accordance to the Antosians' custom. However, something went wrong with the transporter and Garth materialized inside out, being presumed lost by his crew and Starfleet.
In truth, Garth survived thanks to the Antosians' Cellular metamorphosis, remaining on Antos. In 2263 , he was approached by the trader Eurydice and saw a way to take revenge on his former crew for abandoning him. Overpowering her, he manipulated her daughter Thalia to lure the USS Endeavour under the now Captain Kirk to Antos IV. When Kirk and Thalia arrived, Thalia saw that Garth was not her mother. Garth then lured Kirk to an alley way where he stunned him and assumed his likeness. In this state, he beamed aboard the Endeavour and assumed command of the ship. Tracking down the Heisenberg, Garth used Kirk's command codes to assume sole control of the Endeavour, cursing his former crew before opening fire on his old ship. Kirk then beamed aboard and was able to restore the Endeavour to normal operation status. Hikaru Sulu then broke in prompting Garth to assume Kirk's form in an attempt to confuse the commander. Unimpressed, Sulu simply asked a question that only Kirk could answer causing Garth to panic and give himself away, allowing Sulu to stun him. Garth was then taken off to the asylum on Elba II for treatment with Kirk hoping that he would day recover. (TOS - Boldly Go comics: "Issue 11", "Issue 12")
