Gaten Russol

Gaten Russol was a male Cardassian. Russol was a member of the Cardassian military and also the nominal leader of the Cardassian dissident movement. Russol was from Cardassia II.

Biography

In 2360, Russol returned from the Federation-Cardassian War and reacquainted with Natima Lang at the Mekisar military base near Cardassia City, where Lang was interviewing returning solders for the Cardassian Information Service. Russol eventually convinced Lang to join the dissident movement. Later, Russol told fellow members of the dissident movement that their aim should be bringing about the end of Cardassia's Occupation of Bajor and should reach out to the Federation to do so. Russol eventually established contact with Elias Vaughn, then a member of Starfleet Intelligence. In 2365, Russol was assigned to Terok Nor, where he met Odo, who helped Russol retrieve evidence from Skrain Dukat that Russol was contacting the Federation. Russol contacted Vaughn in 2368 to warn him the Cardassians were attempting to make one last damaging strip of Bajor's resources. (ST - Terok Nor novel: Dawn of the Eagles)

Russol later became Odo's most valuable Cardassian contact until Russol was executed by the Cardassian Central Command after Cardassia joined the Dominion. In 2375, Weyoun sent a message to Odo, claiming to be Gul Russol. (DS9 episode: "Treachery, Faith, and the Great River")
