Gates of Gre'thor

The Gates in 2411.

The Gates of Gre'thor were a landmark in Gre'thor according to Klingon mythology and afterlife belief. (VOY episode: "Barge of the Dead")

History and specifications[]

Kortar, the first Klingon, was condemned to serve as ferryman of the Barge of the Dead for slaying the gods, delivered dishonored Klingons to the Gates of Gre'thor. The gate was part of a tall stone wall, with the Klingon trefoil insignia emblazoned atop but upside down. A pier led to the docking bay for the barge.

Beyond the gates, the condemned souls faced versions of hell. The experience could be personalized. When B'Elanna Torres took her mother Miral Torres's place in Gre'thor in the year 2376, she walked through the gate to find a nightmarish version of her last assignment, the starship USS Voyager. (VOY episode: "Barge of the Dead")

In 2409, the foyer behind the gate led into cathedral-like chambers, tall and filled with fireplaces. The area was inhabited by dishonored souls and members of the Fek'Ihri Horde. The Spectres of Gre'thor had their own chambers between the entrance and Fek'lhr's hall. (STO - Fek'Ihri Return mission: "Afterlife")

In 2411, condemned souls could move freely among the halls beyond the gates as long as they did not try to escape. They were guarded and threatened by the Fek'Ihri. (STO - Klingon Civil War mission: "Leap of Faith")
