Gateway (Vulcan)

The Gateway was a region on the planet Vulcan that served as an entry point into the volatile as well as harsh lands known as the Forge. Vulcan tradition held that it was from the Gateway that Surak began his journey of enlightenment when he passed into the desert and from that crossing around two thousand years ago he began the pursuit of logic that the rest of his species embraced.

In 2381 on Stardate 58562.5, James T. Kirk along with his son Joseph Kirk and The Doctor beamed to the Gateway during their search for Spock after he had been absorbed by Norinda of the Totality. (TOS novel: Captain's Glory)
