Gautama Buddha, also known as "the Buddha", was a human male in the 4th century BC on Earth. He is credited with the teachings that make up the Buddhist belief system.

Amongst his teachings are the Four Noble Truths, which relate to the nature of suffering. Jasminder Choudhury cited these to explain her success in poker, an idea which Captain Picard found curious. (TNG novel: Greater Than the Sum)
