In the 24th century, Gavaria was a planet known to the Federation. In the year 2377, Deep Space 9 security chief Ro Laren undertook a mission on Gavaria. She met Quark on Ferenginar after the mission was over. (DS9 novel: The Long Mirage)
Alternate timelines[]
In the Kelvin timeline, this area of space was contested between the Federation and the hostile, territorial Varkolak, in the mid-23rd century. Diplomatic overtures occurred in the 2250s decade. At the time, the conflict almost erupted into open war between the Varkolak and the Federation. The efforts of cadets at Starfleet Academy on Earth and the Varkolak representative Lartal helped avert the conflict in 2255, allowing level-headed negotiations to resume.
