Gehres was a 23rd century Human man. He was a chemist who served in Starfleet in the 2260s.

History[]

Gehres was regarded as a good chemist. Sometime after 2261, he was assigned as the administrator of the Vestalan botanical collections station, an important posting where was responsible for acquiring coatl venom from the native Hualans and processing it into Derivative 249, the only known cure for certain neurotransmission disorders.

In 2269, revival of an old coatl cult among some Hualans led them to steal 20 coatls from the station, sabotage the station's air conditioning, kidnap two of Gehres's staff and sacrifice two others in religious rituals. Amid Gehres's fears that the station would have to be abandoned, Starfleet sent the USS Enterprise to resolve the situation. (TOS - The New Voyages 2 short story: "Snake Pit!")
