This page details George Samuel Kirk, Jr. in the primary universe; for George Samuel Kirk, Jr. in the mirror universe see George Samuel Kirk, Jr. (mirror); for the George Samuel Kirk, Jr. in the Kelvin timeline created by Nero's temporal incursion see George Samuel Kirk, Jr. (Kelvin timeline).

George Samuel "Sam" Kirk, Jr., the eldest son of Winona and George Samuel Kirk, Sr., and brother of James T. Kirk, was born on 12 August 2230.

This character is a member of the Kirk family.

Biography[]

Unlike James, he was a scientist, a research biologist, and mainly worked and lived on the planet Deneva with his wife Aurelan and three sons Peter, Alexander, and Julius. (TOS novel: The Last Roundup, ST website: StarTrek.com)

In the late 2240s, George was already an accomplished scientist, and spent some time on Ganjitsu where he and Winona became good friends with Hikaru Sulu and his parents Hosato Sulu and Shimizu Hana. (TOS novel: Enterprise: The First Adventure)

He was afraid of fire. (TOS eBook: Shadow of the Machine)

Starfleet career[]

Following in the footsteps of both his father and younger brother, George joined Starfleet in the 2250s. In 2259 George was posted to the USS Enterprise under the command of Captain Christopher Pike. An old friend of Pike's, the Captain specifically requested George be posted to the Enterprise. By then he held the rank of Lieutenant and worked in the life sciences department, reporting to Mr. Spock. (SNW episode: "Strange New Worlds")

Final years[]

George traveled from colony to colony aboard an old Andorian merchant ship he owned, later sending for his family once he had established and set up their new home. (TOS - Mere Anarchy eBook: Shadows of the Indignant)

In 2264, Kirk visited Earth, for him and his mother to attend the change of command ceremony of the USS Enterprise from Captain Christopher Pike to James. (TOS novel: Enterprise: The First Adventure)

Unfortunately, George and Aurelan died on Deneva in 2267, following the invasion of neural parasites. However, he was survived by his three sons. (TOS episode & Star Trek 2 novelization: Operation -- Annihilate!)

Among those at Sam’s funeral were James T. Kirk, son Peter, Carol Marcus and David Marcus. (TOS - Year Four comic: "The Enterprise Experiment, Part 3")

Alternate timeline[]

In an alternate timeline created by Pike avoiding his crippling accident, Kirk was still serving aboard the USS Enterprise in 2266. In that year he was reunited with his brother, James, who was captain of the USS Farragut. (SNW episode: "A Quality of Mercy")

Background[]

According to "Echoes of Yesterday" in the third TOS DC Comics special, George was born 7 September 2229, and his death took place on 13 April 2267.

As James T. Kirk "reflects" on having lost a brother (referring to Spock's death), George's reflection is in the viewport of the USS Enterprise-A. (TOS comic: "Star Trek V: The Final Frontier")
