Born in what was then the British colony of Virginia, Washington became a military officer, serving first for the British, and then as commander-in-chief of the American forces fighting for independence. Following the American Revolution and the establishment of the United States of America, Washington was elected as the first President.
Washington was honored with a obelisk known as the Washington Monument, which was built in Washington, DC, which was named after him. (DS9 novelization: Far Beyond the Stars)
