Gibraltar is a planet located in the region of space known as The Triangle.

A desolate, ice-covered world, Gibraltar's only importance is that it sits midway between the Federation and Romulan Star Empire and has been the site of intense talks betwixt the two powers. Initially it was the Romulans who approached the Federation and desired the establishment a more permanent location for talks. In reality, the Romulans simply viewed the Klingon's as the greater threat and did not wish to face a war on two fronts.

The planet was named when the Romulans asked for its designation and a member of the Federation diplomatic corp was prompted to christen it Gibraltar. The planet is equally divided between the two powers with a domed settlement on the dividing line.

Both sides maintain military forces on the planet, and surprisingly, no problems have yet occurred. Federation and Romulan civilians are allowed to settle on Gibraltar based on the terms of the current treaty. The Federation has even establised several mines across the surface(the planet is rich in radioactives and gemstones), although they are operated by a military-controlled company.

Due to Gibraltar's harsh climate, and lack of resources, almost all supplies need to be shipped in from off-world by traders who will sell to the highest bidder. (FASA RPG module: The Triangle)

The planet was chosen as a neutral site for negotiations between the United Federation of Planets and the Romulan Star Empire in 2274. (FASA RPG module: Star Trek IV Sourcebook Update)
