Gin was an alcoholic Earth spirit flavored with juniper berries.

History and specifics[]

Distilled gin is made by redistilling white grain spirit which has been flavored with juniper berries. Compound gin is made by flavoring neutral grain spirit with juniper berries without redistilling and can be considered a flavored vodka. The common drink "gin and tonics" was once believed to cure everything.

Leonard McCoy and Montgomery Scott included this drink in their "drinking alphabet". (TOS novel: Uhura's Song)

In the year 2371, when the USS Voyager were passing by the Tutopa system where The Hub was situated, Lieutenant JG Tom Paris expressed interest in stopping by there. Captain Kathryn Janeway joked to the lieutenant that they were in the area for information on wormholes not venturing of into The Cartel space so he could dive into the local gin joint. (VOY novel: Violations)

Gin was mixed with quinine water to make gin and tonic. (TNG - Assimilation² comic: "Issue 2")
