Glavin

A glavin.

For other uses, see Glavin.

A glavin was a Ligonian hand-held mêlée weapon used in the 23rd century on Ligon II.

Specifics[]

Worn like a glove, its end was affixed with deadly poison-tipped spikes and a metallic billhook. It was 40 centimeters long, with a 15-centimeter ball, and weighed 5 kilograms. Military-trained Ligonians became adept in its use. It was used for ritual combat, but soldiers favored it for personal combat. (Decipher RPG module: Aliens)

History[]

In 2364, Lieutenant Natasha Yar was compelled to participate in a Ligonian duel of honor with Yareena. In order to avoid killing Yareena, the moment Yar struck her with one of the spikes, both combatants were beamed aboard the USS Enterprise-D, where Doctor Beverly Crusher administered an antidote. (TNG episode: "Code of Honor")

In the 2360s, as part of Lieutenant Worf's weapons collection, he owned a glavin. (TNG episode: "Peak Performance")

In 2380, Ensign Beckett Mariner brought a glavin and other items aboard the USS Cerritos from her shore leave to Douglas Station. (LD episode: "Second Contact")
