A glob fly was an animal found on Qo'noS. It was an insect half the size of a Terran mosquito, which did not sting, but made an irritating buzzing sound. (TNG episode: "The Outrageous Okona")

Klingons sometimes regard glob flies as being symbolic of triviality, and they have several proverbs pertaining to them. Among them is ghIlab ghewmey tIbuSQo', meaning "Pay no heed to glob flies." (ST reference: The Klingon Way)

In 2376, Klag referred to the Kreel as being like glob flies. (TNG novel: Diplomatic Implausibility)

In an alternate 2400, Odo shapeshifted into a glob fly aboard the Boreth. It was among the smallest animals Odo felt comfortable transforming into. (DS9 novel: The War of the Prophets)
