The Gnessis were a type of sentient alien lifeform, a civilization native to a homeworld located somewhere in the galaxy's Alpha or Beta Quadrants. They were an unaligned race equidistant from the Klingon Empire and the Federation.

History and specifics[]

The Gnessis held one of their species of tree to be sacred. However, changing meteorological conditions on their world made most of the trees barren, making their seeds extremely valuable.

In 2255, Hamesaad Dreen stole nearly all the seeds of the Gnessis' sacred trees, knowing that the planetary government would pay anything to get them back. While Spock was a guest on board Dreen's ship, he was shown the containers containing the seeds, along with all his other acquisitions. (TOS novel: Legacy)
