The Golden Gate, its namesake bridge, and the city of San Francisco in 2273.
The Golden Gate is the strait which connects San Francisco Bay and the Pacific Ocean, approximately two kilometers wide at its narrowest point.
History and specifics[]
Starfleet maintains facilities on the peninsulas which form both the north and south shores of the straight.
Since 1937 the Gate has been spanned by the Golden Gate Bridge.
"Golden Gate" was also the codeword used by Starfleet Security for a presidential shuttle trip, a reference to the Breen attack on the region in 2375 and the complexities of arranging security for such a trip. (ST novel: Articles of the Federation)
