The Golden Temple was a Sikh religious site in Amritsar, India.
In 1984, the temple was subject to a military assault ordered by Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. During the attack thousands were killed and a library of holy scriptures was destroyed, leading to Gandhi's assassination by two of her Sikh bodyguards in revenge.
