A gordoon

A gordoon was a dragon-like reptilian animal native to the planet Jodarr, similar to a winged kurgo. It looked like a cross between a giant hawk and a snake.

Background[]

A gordoon had dark blue, leathery skin. It had a three foot long, hawk-like head, half of which was a beak. It had six gray, man-length legs. Each leg ended in a small three-toed foot. Toes had 2 foot long talons. It had seven spines on its back. Its blue, leathery wings were structured like a bat’s wing, but had a wingspan equal to the length of its body, about 25 or 30 feet.

It had a strong, thick, pointed tail. A slap of its tail would knock down a horse. It attacked by swooping in and out, dive-bombing at its prey. It was used as combat animals in the medieval arena of the Emperor Ledoy.

History[]

In 2266, to save the life of Rolano, James T. Kirk took his place in the arena to fight the gordoon. Kirk was furnished with a horse, armor and a lance, but the beast could only be put off for so long. Kirk grabbed a standard war flag from a guard and waved it like a Spanish bullfighter to distract the animal. Luckily, Spock arrived and stunned it with a phaser. (TOS comic: "Spore of the Devil")

Leonard McCoy thought the gordoon and winged kurgo were the same animal. While both were similar blue dragons, they had different tails, wings, different types of spines on their backs, and the kurgo had a forked tongue.
