The Gorn are a reptilian or reptiloid humanoid race of whom one group rules a galaxy outside the Milky Way while another group has developed in the Alpha and Beta Quadrant's Gorn Hegemony. (TOS video game: Star Trek) (TOS - The Spectrum War comics: "Issue 2", "Issue 3", "Issue 4", "Issue 5")

Biology[]

Gorn skeleton 2262

A Gorn's skeleton.

Gorn are a cold-blooded reptilian species with scaly skin and an average height of approximately 2 meters. They tend to be stronger than most humanoids. Their ears are simple holes on the sides of their skulls. Their mouths boast an impressive array of sharp, carnivorous teeth, and their hands and feet have vicious claws, with a body size and bite radius similar to the now-extinct utahraptors of Earth. Like most cold-blooded lifeforms, the Gorn are known to prefer warm temperatures.

They consider themselves one culture or species but their society consists of a number of genetically engineered variants or sub-species. Among the extragalactic Gorn the basic male Initiate is a green quadruped intelligent enough to wield weaponry, in contrast to the smaller, less intelligent Rushers. Female Gorn are typically bipedal with silky red or aquamarine skin, while the larger Lieutenants are blue. Initiates receive bio-enhancements to become muscular, armored Warriors or Brutes.

Bipedal purple Gorn with head crests serve as Guardians, while nine feet tall Gorn serve as Sentinels. Scouts who can crawl on walls and camouflage serve as snipers. The Commander was the largest known Gorn, standing ten feet tall and bearing three prominent head crests.

A mutant known as the Champion more closely resembled the prime reality Gorn Russth, lacking a long tail but possessing a bulky frame.

The Gorn speak in an untranslatable series of growls and barks. At last some of the extragalactic Gorn are viviparous, giving birth to vicious live young, though many Gorn also seem to grow in Tanks or artificial monotreme eggs.

The Primary universe Gorn usually are considered to be Oviparous and hatch from specialized eggs.

The Gorn of the Gorn Armada are an extragalactic species of genetically engineered Reptiles or Reptiloids. They consist of a number of more than fifteen bio-engineered variants or subspecies :

This subspecies is only encountered within the Kelvin timeline and does bear only little resemblence to the TOS and ENT Gorn (The Russth and Ssessekh sub-species).According to some secondary sources the Alpha and Beta Quadrant Gorn or their ancestors originated outside the Milky Way Galaxy thus it can be speculated that within the Kelvin timeline these Gorn never left their original home to settle the Gorn homeworlds and therefore took a different developement within the Alternate reality. The Movie Star Trek (2009) originally was intended to have scenes on Rura Penthe including a redesigned Gorn Prisoner, also TOS - The Spectrum War features an episode on the planet Gornar, so the Alpha and Beta Quadrant Gorn also exist in the Kelvin timeline. The Gorn aristocracy shown in The Spectrum War also much closer resemble the Extragalactic Gorn.

History[]

In 2259, the extragalactic Gorn invaded the Milky Way when scientists terraforming New Vulcan opened a tear in space-time with the Helios Machine. They stole the device and kidnapped the scientist T'Mar to gain knowledge of operating it, so they could create multiple rips in space and launch an invasion of the Federation on multiple fronts. Captain James T. Kirk and Commander Spock boarded the Gorn Mothership, destroyed the device and rescued T'Mar, before the rip closed, ending the Gorn threat. (TOS video game: Star Trek)

A more peaceful faction of Gorn separated from the Gorn Armada during the Milky Way invasion. They settled on Parthenon 559, but came into conflict with the Federation colonists there. After learning the colonists struck first, Kirk placed the planet under quarantine, deciding it was best to leave the Gorn alone. (TOS comic: "IDW Star Trek, Issue 24")

2262 Glocon, heir of the conservative but isolationist Hegemon of Gornar slew his father and made himself ruler also declaring war on the United Federation of Planets by attacking the USS Constellation.

though technically the same species it remains unclear if, and if yes to what extend, the Milky Way and the extragalactic Gorn were aware of each other and how both groups were historically related.

Culture and technology[]

The Gorn are a cruel, imperialistic race, and suicidally loyal to their tyrannical dictator. The extragalactic Gorn stripmined every planet and enslaved or killed every other race in their galaxy, and would've done the same to the Milky Way.Those Gorn who had developed on Gornar were less expansionist and more isolationist, though still aggressive and xenophobic.

The extragalactic Gorn were extremely advanced, capable of transporting and striking anywhere, and utilized turrets, mines and attack drones that could inject enemies with a toxin that would turn their enemies on each other. They were experts in genetic engineering, and their weapons mixed organic and technological elements. They also possessed personal cloaking devices. The Milky Way Gorn were more feudal and on a similar technological level as the Federation or the Klingons.
