Gorsach IX, a Class M planet in the Gorsach system, was an artificially created planet that was constructed by the beings known as Them (or "they" depending on the context), beings whose power dwarfs even that of the inhabitants of the Q Continuum, for the purpose of testing whatever species should find them first to determine the fate of the universe.
At first glance, the planet seemed like any other, but the geography and foliage had a perfect symmetry to them that could not occur in nature.
The USS Enterprise was the first starship to explore Gorsach IX in the year 2380, and sprung the test set by Them. Captain Jean-Luc Picard and his first officer, Commander Worf, managed to avoid the obstacles set forth by Them (having been secretly prepared for this moment for years by Q), and Picard and Q gained an audience with Them.
