A Gotherin Eight-B is a type of computer that was in use on Starfleet vessels in the 2160s. It was more advanced than the Gotherin Eight system.

This type of computer contained a security lock that activated when the vessel went to battlestations. If the computer was improperly accessed or tampered with while in the lock down mode, it would cause a core dump of all information. This way if the ship was captured, vital information would remain out of enemy hands.

Doctor Janice Eardman originally believed that the Gotherin Eight computer system would be found on the wreckage of the USS Verdun. Lieutenant Commander Data corrected her stating that the vessel was equipped with a Gotherin Eight-B system. When the ship was abandoned in 2163, Commodore Lucian Murat was able to download the data banks from the Gotherin Eight-B into the last lifeboat before escaping. This allowed the Humans access to various technological plans including binoculars, M1 Garand rifles, P-51 Mustangs, F-16 Fighting Falcons and more. (TNG novel: The Forgotten War)
