The Great Hall was the seat of government of the Klingon Empire. Located in the First City, it contained a primary meeting chamber with a raised throne for the chancellor, as well as the offices of the various members of the High Council and the primary office of the chancellor. (TNG episode: "Sins of the Father")
History[]
Also known as the Senate hall, it was a relic of ten thousand years of internecine warfare before the Klingons had achieved space flight and planetary unity. (TOS novel: Spock Must Die!)
The Great Hall predated the establishment of the Empire and of the First City, as a fortress on the highest point of the continent. (KE novel: A Burning House)
On stardate 5892.7, Starscream, seeking to conquer the Klingon Empire, blew his way into the chambers of the Klingon High Council, claiming the debris as a makeshift throne. His fellow Decepticons, seeking to execute him for his desertion, followed and caused further damage to the Great Hall. (TAS - Star Trek vs. Transformers comic: "Issue 5")
First splinter timeline[]
In 2376, the Great Hall was destroyed in a coup d'etat by Morjod, son of Martok. (DS9 - The Left Hand of Destiny novel: Book One)
The Hall had been rebuilt by 2379 (ST - A Time to... novel: A Time to Kill) but was again destroyed, along with most of the First City, during the Borg Invasion of 2381 – making Martok, son of Urthog the first Klingon Chancellor to see the Great Hall destroyed twice in his reign. (ST - Destiny novel: Lost Souls)
