History and specifics[edit | edit source]
Gribbin II supported a large variety of animal life, including birds, fish, large dinosaur-like lifeforms, large bear-like mammals, six-legged kangaroo-like animals, but did not evolve intelligent life. Plants included cactus, trees and grass.
In 2270, a long distance transporter sent James T. Kirk there from Veneu II, saving him from being buried in a collapsing structure, but marooning him about 250 years in Gribbin II's past, at a point prior to any space travel or transmissions occurring within range of his communicator. (TOS comic: "The Alone")
While stranded there, Kirk crossed the planet's primary continent, visiting a snowy locale to the north, the temperate zone where he first arrived, and a region to the west where large predators lived, finally reaching the shore of an ocean. Kirk lived out his life, his only companion being his pet Gary. Kirk spent most of his time assembling a huge landmark that could be seen from orbit. He died on Gribbin II in 2103.
In 2270, the USS Enterprise orbited Gribbin II and recovered Kirk's body. Using a slingshot maneuver, the Enterprise went back in time and rescued him shortly after his arrival on the planet, creating an alternate timeline.
By 2290, Gribbin II became the Wumpar's center of rebuilding efforts since their civilization was destroyed by the Drasalle. New cities were named in honor of Kirk and Spock, and one settlement was erected not far from the plateau.
