For other uses, see Guramba.

Guramba was a word in the Nausicaan language, used to mean gumption, nerve, or gall. (TNG episode: "Tapestry")

History[]

 learns about guramba.

Picard learns about guramba.

In 2327, Ensign Jean-Luc Picard and his friends, Marta Batanides and Cortin Zweller got into a brawl with three Nausicaans after a game of dom-jot at Starbase Earhart when one of Nausicaans questioned Picard's lack of guramba.

At the time, Picard believed that guramba was a term for genitals. He revealed this thought decades later in his autobiography. (TNG novel: The Autobiography of Jean-Luc Picard)

During the Borg Invasion of 2381, Nausicaa was attacked by the Borg and left uninhabitable. The survivors of the attack cursed the Borg for this affront. The de-facto leader of the survivors, Kinogar, swore that if he had been present he would have shown his people's worth to the invaders.

In the 2380s, the word was considered sacred and used only by their species.

A few took offense when Worf, son of Mogh used this term in 2386 to challenge the survivors in accepting the offer by the Klingon Empire to relocate to the world of Kremlat to become imperial citizens and, hopefully, rebuild their culture allowing the surviving Nausicaans to let go of their ways of piracy. (TNG novel: Collateral Damage)

The starship NFV Guramba.

In the 25th century, Goshi the Augmented had his Nausicaan nature questioned. When he became an assault squad officer in the Klingon Defense Force in 2409, he replied, "You say genetic augmentation illegal. I say that I now have more guramba than anyone." (STO - Call to Arms mission: "First City")

In the same year, the NFV Guramba became the lead ship of the Guramba-class siege destroyer, a ship type built by the Nausicaans that entered KDF service. (STO - Klingon Sector mission: "The Hunt is On")
