The habitable zone, Goldilocks zone or ecosphere was a region of habitability within a solar system within which water could exist on a planet in solid, liquid and gaseous states, where conditions were "just right" for life. Humanoid life depended on these class M conditions. (TOS novel: Devil's Bargain, Star Trek Adventures RPG modules: The Sciences Division, Beta Quadrant Sourcebook)

For instance, the second planet in system FGC-20903 was a Jovian gas giant, but because it orbited within its system's habitable zone, its atmosphere had clouds made of water vapor rather than ammonia, and its second moon Mygor was class M. (Adventures RPG module: Stolen Liberty)
