For use in Klingon wedding ceremonies, at least three targs are killed and sacrificed at dawn in the Hamar Mountains and their shoulders boiled into tallow to make the wax of Var'hama candles. Due to time constraints, Jadzia Dax and Worf were unable to travel to the Hamar Mountains before their wedding to do this. (DS9 episode: "You Are Cordially Invited")

When Martok, son of Urthog, returned to Qo'noS following a decades-long incarceration by the House of Torg, Chancellor J'mpok told a respect Khitomer Alliance officer that some said Martok now stood with in honor next to the great heroes of the Klingon Empire, like T'Kuvma, Voq, L'Rell and Kang. J'mpok mused that at this rate, Martok's ego would be larger than Mount Hamar at this rate. (STO - New Frontiers mission: "Brushfire")
