Memory Beta, non-canon Star Trek Wiki

Hans Werber was a Human male who served in Starfleet in the early 24th century. In 2333, Werber was serving aboard the USS Stargazer under the command of Captain Daithan Ruhalter. During his service aboard the Stargazer he also became good friends with the ships chief engineer, Phigus Simenon.

Shortly after Lieutenant Commander Jean-Luc Picard was forced to take command of the Stargazer after Captain Ruhalter was killed and First Officer Stephen Leach injured in a Nuyyad attack, Werber and several other crew members attempted a mutiny. Werber himself entered Picard's quarters and attempted to stun him with a phaser before being apprehended and placed in the brig.

Werber was later returned to Earth where he was incarcerated at Starfleet Command pending a hearing into his actions. Picard visited Werber at this time and forgave him for his actions as well as promising to put a word in for him with the Judge Advocate General. Shortly after, Werber was ordered to serve a short sentence at the New Zealand Penal Settlement instead of a life sentence on a high-security asteroid. (TNG novel: The Valiant; STA novel: Gauntlet)

A few weeks later, Werber contacted Simenon aboard the Stargazer in an attempt to keep their friendship alive, but Simenon refused claiming that he not only betrayed Picard with his actions, but also Simenon. (STA novel: Gauntlet)
