Hari Banerji was an Human male who served as an officer in the Federation Starfleet in the 22nd century.

Biography[]

By 2165, Banerji held the rank of lieutenant commander and served as both science officer and communications officer on the USS Vol'Rala under the command of Captain Resthenar sh'Prenni, and was the only Human serving on the Andorian ship. The aging scientist developed an interesting friendship with first officer Giered Charas.

In July of that year, during the Ware campaign, he developed a new technique to wake up captives used as computer processors in Ware installations. This required no boarding parties, just probes that sent the awakening protocol once fired into the hull of a Ware station. The task force used this strategy successfully a number of times against Ware targets in territory of the Partnership of Civilizations.

Later that month, the Vol'Rala arrived at the Partnership world Rasthis to deactivate all Ware in the system, but they were confronted by a fleet of Klingon privateer ships lead by the SuD Qav, under the command of Captain Lokog, who was hired by the Partnership for protection. The Andorian crew fought fearlessly to liberate the planet, but eventually the larger number of the Klingons overpowered them and Vol'Rala was disabled. Banerji, along with the rest of the crew, were taken into custody by the Partnership, pending trial for genocide for their "liberation" of the Etrafso system earlier that month.

After realizing the consequences of their actions on the Partnership that cost thousands of lives, Starfleet spent months to try and correct their mistakes and arranged a pardon for Vol'Rala's crew. Eventually, Banerji was pardoned, to help in a Starfleet project that would give the opportunity to keep using the Ware, without the need of sentient brains. However, with the threat of an impending Klingon invasion, the entire Vol'Rala crew were released, to allow them to make amends for their actions, while Banerji continued his work away from the ship.

In October, after a valiant fight to cover the evacuation of the Partnership planet Cotesc, Vol'Rala was destroyed with all hands by the invading Klingon fleet.

In November, as the sole known survivor of the Vol'Rala, Banerji gave a speech at the dedication ceremony of the Vol'Rala memorial in the central park of Andor's capital city, Laikan. (ENT - Rise of the Federation novel: Live by the Code)
