Harrison Morrow (also known as Harold Morrow, Henry R. Morrow, Randolph H. Morrow or Randolph E. Morrow) was a human male serving as an officer in Starfleet in the 23rd century. As of 2285, he held the position of Commander, Starfleet with the rank of fleet admiral. (TOS movie, novelization & comic adaptation: Star Trek III: The Search for Spock)
Biography[]
Morrow first met James T. Kirk in 2255. (FASA RPG module: Star Trek IV Sourcebook Update)
It was Morrow who sponsored Kirk for his captaincy and pressured him into applying to the admiralty following the completion of his first five-year mission as captain of the Federation starship USS Enterprise. Morrow was Chief of Staff of the Federation Starfleet, under Fleet Admiral Heihachiro Nogura, when the Enterprise was dispatched to intercept V'Ger in 2273. When Nogura stepped down as a result of the failed Operation: Dixie, Morrow was chosen to replace him. In 2291, Morrow was sent to represent a group of influential private citizens to meet with Klingon General Navok, to discuss how to avoid future war with the Klingon Empire, a discussion which led to the Khitomer Conference two years later. - Interestingly, FASA's Star Trek IV Sourcebook Update gives Morrow's first name as Randolph with a middle initial of "E", while the novel Rules of Engagement also gives Morrow's first name as Randolph but the middle initial is "H". The actual first name of "Harry" originates in Harve Bennett's screenplay for Star Trek III, and was used in that film's novelization and subsequent stories.
Personality Traits[]
Admiral Morrow was viewed by many within Starfleet as something of a new-blood reformer, due to his habits of trusting his subordinates more than his predecessors to exercise good judgment and carry out assignments without micromanagement on his part as Starfleet commander. This endeared him to a number of high-ranking officials, including former Fleet Admiral Nogura.
Morrow was also a fanatical devotee of outdoor activities, and had a passion for camping out in the northern California wilderness. He would sometimes disappear when shore leave time occurred, escaping as far away as possible from modern society and technology (and often leaving behind his personal communicator). He refused to be disturbed unless it was a dire emergency, at one point infamously telling a subordinate: "If I can't see the flames from orbit, then it's something that you can handle until I get back." Alternate timeline[]
In an alternate timeline created by the death of Spock in 2237, Admiral Morrow was killed in the Genesis War in 2291. He was succeeding as the Commanding Officer of Starfleet by Patrick West. (TOS - Myriad Universes novella: The Chimes at Midnight)
