Haunan Bheyan was the Alerian identity of a 23rd century Orion man surgically altered for a deep-cover assignment on the planet Aleriad.

Biography[]

Born in the mid-2220s decade, Bheyan was streetwise, an expert at bribery and trading. He was highly skilled in computer operations, leadership, and interrogation.

When he was about 19 years old, circa 2245, he was surgically altered and given the Alerian name Haunan Bheyan in order to establish an Orion smuggling operation on Aleriad. Many of his memories were shielded to prevent the Alerians from learning his secret. Once placed in the city of Baikanaad, he assumed the role of a poor, half-caste laborer and worked his way up the ranks of a trading firm in the Kembali faction. He became highly knowledgeable in the Alerian language and an expert on Alerian history. After ensconcing himself as a leader among the Kembali sect, he recalled his past life and initiated smuggling trade with Orions.

By the year 2270, he'd spent 25 years on Aleriad. He was 44 years old and become prefect of the Kilananant province when Aleriad faced an extinction-level event. By this time, he'd forgotten his given name. Suspicious when news arrived of an approaching Starfleet rescue flotilla, he first thought they were on to his activities. He soon realized that they cut off access to Orion ships.

The second day after the task force arrived in orbit, Kembali high councillor Mennan Belaffi met with Special Ambassador Robert Fox, while Bheyan and other high-ranking Kembali listened from behind a secret panel. Bheyan realized his only escape offworld lay with the task force. A state dinner was held for task force personnel in the Kembali Quarter, during which Bheyan toasted them for fighting thugs of the Isaona. The next day they met with Belaffi, Bheyan, Vassenant Olwin, and Nadorj Sonati, but frightened leadership decided to confine the offworlders indefinitely.

Bheyan warned the landing party of their imprisonment. Playing the role of a cowardly native to the hilt, he aided their escape in a ground vehicle that evening, then served as their intermediary with Nykhaanar Thyan, leader of the Jahureki faction. Thyan and his advisors agreed that their 600,000 sect members would evacuate so long as they could be returned to the planet after the crisis passed, aligning their actions with prophecy. Beamed offworld the next day, Bheyan and Thyan were given quarters along with 40 other high-ranking Jahureki aboard the Enterprise.

The surface of Aleriad was destroyed by a debris strike the next day, leaving the world uninhabitable. Bheyan began alarming the Jahureki with stories they'd been tricked about being able to return to their homeworld, and soon might be tortured or placed in internment camps. Within a few days, he'd incited enough panic to lead a Jahureki revolt to seize control of the Enterprise. He triggered the ship's intruder-control gas, and while ship's personnel were unconscious, Jahureki secured most of them in the shuttle bay. For a short time, Bheyan controlled the Enterprise.

After ship's crew retook the ship, Bheyan was captured, confined, and his true nature as an Orion revealed. He expected to be taken to a prison planet. (FASA RPG module: Denial of Destiny)
