Hawaii is a region of the North American continent on the planet Earth, with boundaries that were created as the area was settled as a geopolitical subdivision of the United States of America nation. Hawaii's capital city was in Honolulu.

History

The state was a group of volcanic islands located in the middle of the Pacific Ocean on Earth. Like Alaska, it was not located within the main bulk of the United States of America, and like Alaska it joined the Union in 1959.

In 1941, Pearl Harbor, a U.S. naval base in the islands, was the target of a surprise attack by Japan, which caused the then neutral United States to enter World War II. This attack would later be compared to the attack on Station Salem-One as a "bloody preamble to war." (TNG episode: "The Enemy")

References

Shortly before he was due to report on board the USS Enterprise, Lieutenant Spock spent several days in Hawaii on vacation before being recalled to Vulcan by his father Sarek. (TOS novel: Vulcan's Glory)

Sometime prior to 2369, David Gold and his family vacationed in Hawaii. Years later, he would compare the planet Drema IV to Hawaii, given that world's volcanic past, and its subsequent transformation by verdant plant life. (SCE eBook: Progress)

In 2375, Leonard McCoy told Montgomery Scott to remind him to warm up on Hawaii after landing on Bakrii, which was very cold. (TOS short story: "Safe Harbors")

In 2380, the USS Titan witnessed an alliance led by the Pa'haquel attempting to save the Shalra from destruction by a harvester. The Shalra were a pre-warp society that had little scientific knowledge and did not know of the existence of life on other worlds. This caused Deanna Troi to worry that the alliance could use the fact that they were perceived as gods to dominate the Shalra, but the Rianconi Oderi noted that societies get upset when gods do not behave as they are expected to and they are typically overthrown as false gods. This caused Troi to reflect on what happened to Captain James Cook in Hawaii as well as what almost happened to James T. Kirk on Miramanee's World. (TTN novel: Orion's Hounds)
