- This page details Hendorff in the primary universe; for the Hendorff in the Kelvin timeline created by Nero's temporal incursion see Hendorff (Kelvin timeline).
Hendorff (sometimes referred to as Hendorf) was a Human Starfleet officer serving as an ensign in the security division aboard the Federation starship USS Enterprise under the command of Captain James T. Kirk in the 23rd century. (CCG set: Star Fleet Maneuvers, card: "Ensign Hendorf")
History[]
In 2267, Hendorff was a member of the nine-person landing party to the planet Gamma Trianguli VI around stardate 3417. A few minutes after the teams arrived by transporter on the planet surface, Hendorff noticed a plant in his peripheral vision that was moving. When Hendorff stepped forward to investigate the motion, he was shot through with spores by what was revealed to be a pod plant. Kirk reached him in time to lower him to the ground, and Chief Medical Officer Leonard McCoy examined him, pronouncing him dead only second later. The Enterprise beamed up his body shortly thereafter. Hendorff was the first of four security personnel to die on that mission, from the various hazards in Vaal's "garden" territory on Gamma Trianguli VI. (TOS episode & novelization: The Apple)
In a memoir written in the early 2270s, then-Rear Admiral Kirk would remember, as a group, the ninety-six crewpeople (including Hendorff) who died during Kirk's five-year mission as Enterprise commanding officer. (TOS novelization: Star Trek: The Motion Picture)
Appendices[]
Background[]
In the novelization and some later non-canon works, his name was spelled with only one "f", in difference from the final episode credits. Hendorff's rank was not specified in the episode, but a card game set specified he was an ensign.
In the episodic appearance of this character, Hendorff was played by actor Mal Friedman.
