Hengrauggi.
The Hengrauggi, referred to as a snow slug by Erin Esurance, was a species of animal native to Delta Vega.

James T. Kirk thought the animals looked something like a crab had collided with a giant squid; they had six limbs, the two front most with claw-like hands, and a mouth that separated into several segments to shoot out two long squid-like tentacles. They also had two tails. The majority of the Hengrauggi population were a little larger than an average humanoid, though some members of the species were observed to have grown many times larger. History[]
In 2257, a Hengrauggi attacked Montgomery Scott and Keenser on Delta Vega. While Scotty retreated, Keenser stood his ground and stared down the creature. Deciding Keenser was not prey, the Hengrauggi retreated. This may indicate the species has an instinct to perceive anything that runs as prey, much like Earth's wolves. In 2258, James T. Kirk was being chased by a drakoulias on the surface of Delta Vega when a large Hengrauggi burst out of the ground and killed the pursuing animal. The Hengrauggi then set it's sights on Kirk, chasing the much smaller Human into a cave and eventually manage to grapple Kirk. Fortunately Spock was nearby, and had learnt of the Hengrauggi's fear of fire, so was able to successfully chase it away. (TOS movie & novelization: Star Trek)
In 2265, snow slugs and polarillas had overrun the Starfleet outpost on Delta Vega. Special agent Erin Esurance was sent by Starfleet Command to investigate when contact was lost with the outpost. Upon beaming down to the planet Esurance had to battle her way past numerous snow slugs to make it into the base, and then past more of them within the base. When she eventually located fellow Starfleet officer Keenser in the base a particularly large snow slug burst through the wall of the room they were in an attacked. However Esurance was able to use her phaser to neutralise the animal. (TOS video game: Delta Vega: Meltdown on the Ice Planet)
