Hephaestan High Council

The Hephaestan High Council was the governing body of the planet Hephaestus.

The council consisted of five members plus a president. Members wore ceremonial purple robes with raised collars. The leader of the council, Mukii, wore a darker purple robe embroidered at the bottom and ends of the arms. The council chambers were underground.

History[]

In the year 2274, James T. Kirk met with the high council to negotiate a mining agreement with the Federation for pergium and dilithium. When a Hephaestan was murdered in the presence of a Klingon soldier and Lt. Pavel Chekov, the council gave permission for Leonard McCoy and Christine Chapel to perform an autopsy, which was supervised by doctors Sikaar and Simaya.

As he was dying, Sikaar revealed that intelligence-augmenting symbionts had been kept a secret by the council as a test to determine whether the Federation or the Klingon Empire was more deserving of mining privileges. After Klingons had killed three Hephaestans, Sikaar was certain the council would award those rights to the Federation. (TOS comic: "All the Infinite Ways")
