A Herbig–Haro formations are relatively small flumes of luminosity formed when gas ejected by newly formed stars collide with nearby clouds of gas and dust at high speed.
The USS Enterprise-C observed numerous Herbig-Haro formations while surveying the Draavid nebulae cluster in 2336. (ST - The Lost Era novel: Well of Souls)
