The Hermosa Reef was a coral reef off the coast of California on Earth, formed in the aftermath of the Hermosa Earthquake of 2047, when a large section of Los Angeles sunk into the Pacific Ocean. By the 24th century, it was one of the world's largest coral reefs, home to thousands of different marine lifeforms. (VOY episode: "Future's End")

Jack Crusher requested that, following his death, his ashes be scattered over the Hermosa Reef. In 2354, Beverly and Wesley Crusher traveled to Earth to fulfill this final request, and found the visit to be therapeutic for them both. (TNG novel: Losing the Peace)
