Hiro Matsura was one of the first six captains within the Federation Starfleet, along with Aaron Stiles, Bryce Shumar, Alonis Cobaryn, Michael Hagedorn, and Connor Dane. Prior to that, he was a crucial fighter for Earth Command during the Romulan War, where he helped end the Battle of Cheron.
Within the Federation Starfleet, he first commanded the Christopher-class ship, the Yellowjacket, before being awarded captaincy of the first starship built for the new Starfleet: the USS Daedalus. (ST novel: Starfleet: Year One)
