"Histories" is a TOS comic published in the 2018 Waypoint Special from IDW Publishing. In the story, a culture that lost contact with the Federation adopts a skewed history of its first contact.
Summary[]
Novitiates watch as a preceptor presents a historical recreation of the day that Starfleet first visited their planet. According to their history, James T. Kirk, Spock, and a group of security officers armed with phaser rifles conquered them and planted the Federation flag on their world. According to records, Starfleet's Prime Directive was to conquer races, amass an army, and dominate the galaxy.
During the session, one novitiate refutes the records, claiming that Starfleet was benevolent. He is taken before a tribunal and threatened with exile, as such questioning was blasphemous in their group. He stands by his statement. He points out that 1,000 years earlier they lost contact with the Federation, without explanation. Contrary to the official history, he says tales have been passed down orally that tell a different story, one of sacrifice, heroic acts, and a Federation that united worlds for mutual protection. He asserts that if these oral stories were missing from the official history, then what else is it missing? His arguments fall on deaf ears, and he is abandoned.
He returns to his dwelling and packs his belongings. He retrieves a Starfleet assignment patch, kept hidden behind a crystal on a shelf. He will keep the faith.

Background[]
- Some circumstance could have caused this culture to become isolated as early as the 24th century, leading to a placement for this story in the 34th century or later. However, since The Burn in 3069 severed the Federation from a great many civilizations, even the peoples of Earth and Vulcan, a statistically likely placement may be the 41st century.
