A hospital ship is a type of starship dedicated to delivering medical aid and care.
History[]
The first Federation hospital ships were Hopkins-class, and were initially deployed to medical emergencies in UFP charter member star systems. This class was in service from reference stardate 0/97 to 1/33. (ST reference: Spaceflight Chronology)
A proposal was made in 2375, during the Dominion War, for Starfleet to transfer twenty-five Federation hospital ships over to Romulan control. (DS9 episode: "Inter Arma Enim Silent Leges")
