House Velekh was a Vulcan house (both a high house and a great house) that existed on the planet Vulcan until sometime after 855 B.C..
Specifics[]
Lord Evekh of Old House Yehenik considered House Velekh (then with Lady Suvin as its Eldest of House) to be a young upstart house that had advanced far beyond his, and referred to it as the House Velekh, of the High House. T'Theliah referred to it as a great house and wondered why a high house would bother with them as they were a noble house. (TOS novel: Spock's World)
History[]
During the years of the age of antiquity before the Vulcan Reformation (in what was widely thought to be the year 855 B.C.), rival Warlord Nu'Val forced the failure of Vulcan’s first attempted flight-capable starship by attacking Warlord D'Vir’s city of Devlarmby—vaporising 90% of its inhabitants and leaving the city in ruins. (TOS novel: Spock's World)
As it was believed that whichever of Vulcan’s warring factions to first reach the stars would gain an upper hand over their rivals, Vulcans like Lady Suvin continued to pursue space flight despite what happened at Devlarmby. Lady Suvin allied her house with Old House Yehenik (then with Lord Evekh as its Head of House) to expedite the launch of two flight-capable starships to make landings on T'Khut and claim a monopoly on mining its rich minerals. (TOS novel: Spock's World)
But Lady Suvin also secretly wanted to gain a weapon she could use against her enemies, and to those ends she schemed to bond T'Thelaih of Old House Yehenik to her grandson Mahak in an attempt to breed the killing-gift so she’d get a great-grandchild with the Last Thought technique. T'Thelaih went mad with rage and lashed out with her killing power when she discovered Lady Suvin’s true plan, exterminating Lady Suvin's High House — consequently causing the loss of psi-communication technology (which had to be bred for and rediscovered) and setting back the first manned landing on T'Khut by fifty standard years. (TOS novel: Spock's World)
Legacy[]
The spectacular backfiring of the attempted union between the High House (House Velekh) and the Old House (House Yehenik) dissuaded many other houses from attempting such solutions to their problems. Houses began to grow away from one another, separating nations and making it harder for houses to work together. (TOS novel: Spock's World)
Known Members[]
- Lady Suvin (Eldest of House around 855 B.C.)
- Mahak (right-line child)
- T'Thelaih (adopted/sold into it)
