Howard Weinstein sold the story for the TAS episode: "The Pirates of Orion" at age nineteen. He is the author of over sixty Trek comics, novels and stories.

While writing "Safe Harbors" for the Tales of the Dominion War anthology, Weinstein watched several Star Trek: Deep Space Nine episodes that were set at the same time. He commented "watching a few episodes made me want to watch more, because it reminded me what a good series DS9 was. But because Keith gave us a deadline, I did not have time to watch all seven seasons. [1]
