Hranrar was a planet located in the Vela OB2 Association in the Beta Quadrant and the second planet in the Vela OB2-404 system. In 2382, the planet was discovered by the Federation starship USS Titan and the Gorn. (TTN novel: Seize the Fire). It was colonized by the Gorn and became a vassal state of the Klingon Empire after the conquest of the Gorn Hegemony in the year 2403. (STO novel: The Needs of the Many)
In 2409, Hranrar was among the worlds of the former Gorn Hegemony where parts of the population rebelled openly against the Klingons. The KDF dispatched an assault squad to suppress the uprising. Their chance at succeeding was in excess of fifty percent. (STO mission: "Suppress Gorn Uprising on Hranrar")
