The Hromi Cluster was a region of space in the Xarantine and Hromi sectors of the Pi Canis sector block in the Beta Quadrant, near the Acamar system containing a number of Class M planets. Parts of the area had been charted by the Federation. (TNG episode: "The Vengeance Factor", STO mission: "Explore the Hromi Cluster")
History[]
In 2300, Elias Vaughn investigated communications from smugglers operating in the Hromi Cluster. (ST novel: Cast No Shadow)
In 2366, the USS Enterprise-D entered the Hromi Cluster to locate a Gatherer camp. (TNG episode: "The Vengeance Factor")
Morjod claimed to have made all his wealth in the Hromi Cluster, through Klingon-owned mining concerns. In fact, it was controlled by Ferengi and Orion concerns, most of them illegal. As Kahless pointed out, due to the Klingon belief that discussing commerce was distasteful, very few Klingons would know be aware of Morjod's falsehood. (DS9 - The Left Hand of Destiny novel: Book Two)
In 2404, following their conquering of the Gorn Hegemony, the Klingon Empire demanded that all Federation citizens vacate the cluster immediately and invoked ancient territorial rights that the cluster was their property. Federation President Aennik Okeg refused the ultimatum point-blank on stardate 82001.36 in 2405, stating that "current possession counts for something," and three days later the Klingons began an ethnic cleansing attempt on Korvat. Starfleet retaliated, opening the Federation-Klingon War of 2405-2410. (STO website: The Path to 2409)
In 2409, Lieutenant Grall was responsible for Starfleet exploration missions to the Hromi Cluster. There were hundreds of unexplored planets. Some of these worlds required commodities such as shield generators, industrial energy cells and communication arrays. (STO missions: "Explore the Hromi Cluster", "Relief Effort")
