Hwael Ruins map.
The Hwael Ruins were a settlement on the planet New Romulus, a collection of building ruins located south of the New Romulus city. (STO - New Romulus mission: "Hwael Ruins")
Location[]
Ruins dating back to the Sundering existed on top of the Dewan Underground Ruins, south of the city and embassy, separated from the Staging Area by the Atlai river and the Isha Forest. Vegetation had reclaimed most of the area. The ruins were concentrated in a valley west of the Paehhos Crater. (STO - New Romulus mission: "Hwael Ruins")
History[]
In the 4th century, the Vulcan colony ships of the Sundered arrived at the third planet of the Dewa system. Within six months, they had settled the area and named the planet Vastam. (STO - New Romulus mission: "The History of New Romulus": Volume 6, Chapter 5)
The area was south of where the colonists first landed on this world. (STO - New Romulus mission: "Staging Area")
After bloody fighting among the colonists, the would-be Romulans departed the planet, and their constructions fell into disuse. (STO - New Romulus mission: "The History of New Romulus": Volume 5, Chapters 6, 7)
Following the colonization by the Romulan Republic, Lieutenant Ethara was in charge of the area and directed archaeologists and Allied officers in their tasks around the ruins. Tholians in environmental suits roamed the ruins, attacking the Romulans, while wildlife remained close to the Paehhos Crater. The ruins consisted of stony remains, including buildings with two stories. Dewan and colonial artifacts were half-buried in the Hwael grounds. (STO - New Romulus missions: "Hwael Ruins", "Underground Ruins")
During the Iconian War in 2410, Herald forces travelled from this area to the Underground Ruins. Lieutenant Ethara and Subcommander Xiolan directed the Alliance forces defending Republic grounds. (STO - The Iconian War mission: "Blood of Ancients")
