For other uses, see Hypatia.

Hypatia was a female Human from Greece, on planet Earth, in the 4th and 5th centuries. She was an accomplished philosopher, mathematician and astronomer which was very unusual at the time, as women were normally completely excluded from these fields of study. Due to a religious and cultural upheaval in the early 5th century, she was murdered and later considered a martyr to the cause of science and reason.

In the 23rd century, the Federation starship USS Hypatia was named after her. (DTI novel: Forgotten History)
